On 29 June 2026, the EU Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) issued an advisory note on the money laundering and terrorist financing risks linked to the end of the transitional period under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). MiCA’s transitional period ends on 1 July 2026 and after this date firms must be authorised as MiCA compliant crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) in order to continue providing crypto asset services in the EU. The AMLA’s advisory note contains a table that summarises the potential money laundering / terrorist financing risks arising from the end of the transitional period along with suggested mitigation measures for unauthorised virtual asset service providers, authorised CASPs, AML supervisors and financial intelligence units.
