On 19 January 2016, the Dutch Minister of Finance informed the Dutch Parliament on its evaluation report of the Act on Bank Tax (Wet bankenbelasting, the Act). The report focuses on an evaluation of the main goals of the Act. The primary goal of the Act is to request banks to contribute to the implicit warranty from the Dutch government to the Dutch banking sector. The report also considers the development of the banking sector since the implementation of the bank tax.
The report concludes that the developments in the banking sector are in line with the intended objectives of the Act and that the bank tax in the Netherlands is in line with the bank taxes in other European Member States. Therefore, adjustments to the Act are not deemed to be necessary.
