On 27 September 2017, the Dutch Central Bank (De Nederlandsche Bank, DNB) published guidance on managing data quality by insurers in relation to the Solvency II Directive (the Guidance Document).

In the Guidance Document, DNB provides guidance on and good practices for the most important elements and principles under the Solvency II Directive to ensure data quality, including data identification, data controls and data monitoring. DNB also sets out its expectations, taking into the account the results from its thematic investigation into managing data quality back in February of this year. On the basis of this investigation, DNB concluded in short that the insurers that were part of the investigation were mainly in the early stages of developing and implementing a data quality policy and still had a lot of work to do.
