On 30 March 2022, the FCA updated its webpage concerning its role as the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing supervisor of UK cryptoasset businesses under the Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations 2017.
Specifically, the FCA has provided an update on the temporary registration regime for cryptoasset businesses stating that it has concluded its assessments and the regime will close on 1 April 2022, for all but for a small number of firms where it is strictly necessary to continue to have temporary registration. This is necessary where a firm may be pursuing an appeal or may have particular winding-down circumstances.
