On 10 December 2021, the UK Finance published its 2021 Financial Abuse Code. The Code was launched in 2018 to increase awareness and understanding amongst firms and their staff of financial abuse and how to recognise it. It has now been revised and aligned with recent legislative and regulatory developments including the Financial Conduct Authority’s Guidance on the Fair Treatment of Vulnerable Customers and the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, which now identifies economic abuse as a form of abuse. 29 members and 39 brands have committed to implementing this Code, including 14 organisations that are making the commitment for the first time.
