On 2 March 2020, the European Banking Authority (EBA) published a letter (dated 25 February 2020) to John Berrigan (Acting Director General, Directorate-General Financial Stability, Services and Capital Markets Union) concerning the Commission Services’ Call for Advice on the impact and implementation in the EU of the final Basel III standards.

On 15 July 2019, the EBA received an additional request from the Commission in the areas of specialised lending, minimum requirement for own funds and Eligible Liabilities (MREL), intragroup equity exposures and the application of the output floor at all levels.

Attached to this latest EBA letter are:

  • Annex 1 containing the EBA’s analysis on specialised lending, setting out an overview of the use of regulatory approaches and portfolio composition; and
  • Annex 2 discussing the impact of Basel III on MREL.
