On 6 November 2018, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) published the official translations of guidelines on certain aspects of the MiFID II suitability requirement. The guidelines apply to the provision of investment advice, and portfolio management under MiFID II, and apply from 7 March 2019. The ESMA guidelines on certain aspects of the MiFID I suitability requirements will cease to apply on the same date.

Member State national competent authorities to which the guidelines apply must notify ESMA whether they comply or intend to comply with the guidelines, within two months beginning 6 November 2018.
