The House of Commons’ library has published a briefing paper on the impact of Brexit across certain policy areas including financial services (section 3.6).
The briefing paper notes:
- that it is likely that a significant amount of financial services legislation would remain post the UK withdrawing from the EU, though not necessarily in the same form or to the same extent;
- the primary concern across all financial institutions is the future status of the UK in terms of access to the EU financial markets; and
- that there are various different models of interaction between non-EU Member States and the EU but it is not obvious which of these models, if any, would apply although a possibly informative comparator is the relationship between Switzerland and the EU.
