The Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures and the International Organization of Securities Commissions (CPMI-IOSCO) have published a consultative report concerning the harmonisation of the unique product identifier (UPI).

The consultative report outlines the CPMI-IOSCO’s proposed principles and high-level business specifications for the UPI and asks for feedback on them, in particular whether any of the proposals pose implementation challenges. The consultative report also proposes two related approaches for the granularity of the UPI classification system, and asks for feedback on them, in particular whether any aspects of the proposals would pose implementation challenges.

The deadline for comments on the consultative report is 24 February 2016.

A separate consultative report on code proposals is expected in 2016, followed by the publication of final guidance on a classification system and code by CPMI-IOSCO later in 2016.
