On 20 June 2023, the House of Lords announced that the Financial Services and Markets Bill has completed the last of its Lords stages. The Bill had its third reading on 19 June 2023, which was a chance for members to make sure the eventual law is effective, workable and without loopholes.

No changes to the Bill were suggested ahead of the third reading. Members discussed the passage of the Bill through the House at the conclusion of its Lords stages.

Following completion of the third reading, the Bill now returns to the House of Commons for consideration of the Lords amendments, which is the final stage before Royal Assent of the Bill. The date for the Commons’ consideration is yet to be confirmed.
