There has been published on the FCA’s website copies of letters between Clive Adamson (FCA director of supervision) and Graham Beale (Chairman of the FCA Practitioner Panel) clarifying the FCA’s use of attestations.
Mr Adamson notes in his letter that to ensure increased consistency in the regulator’s approach to using attestations and address certain risks identified by Mr Beale the FCA will be issuing revised internal guidance and supporting materials to supervisors which will emphasise the importance of clarity and transparency when using attestations. The FCA will also strengthen internal governance processes around attestations and change the way in which they are recorded and tracked. Going forward the FCA is looking to publish data on attestations on a quarterly basis, similar to the information it publishes on Skilled Person Reviews.
