The European Council has adopted the Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) that will govern sales and distribution of insurance through the European Union. The existing Insurance Mediation Directive, agreed in 2002, will be replaced by the IDD when it takes effect in two years’ time. The IDD was adopted without discussion at a meeting of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council on 14 December 2015.

The European Parliament approved the IDD on 24 November. Details of the agreed Directive and its impact can be found here:  European Parliament approves Insurance Distribution Directive
