The European Commission has published remarks made by Michel Barnier, European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, on ongoing EU banking reforms. Mr Barnier states that the Commission will present its legislative proposal on EU banking structural reform at the beginning of January 2014 and suggests that this proposal will consider:
- separation;
- calibration;
- the treatment of risk taken by banks deemed too big to fail; and
- the Volcker Rule.
