On 4 June 2020, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) issued updated reporting instructions for money market funds (MMF) reporting.

Article 37 of the Money Market Fund Regulation (MMFR) and the related technical standards oblige the managers of MMFs to submit a detailed list of information to Member State national competent authorities (NCAs) who will then transmit the information to ESMA. The information will be included in a central database, with the objective of ensuring effective supervision within the EU.

The first reports by the managers of MMF under the MMFR should be submitted in September 2020, when they will have to report quarterly reports for both the Q1 and Q2 reporting periods. ESMA’s reporting instructions aim to specify the exchange of MMF reports between the managers of MMFs, NCAs, and ESMA.

ESMA has implemented amendments on the XML schema and reporting instructions in a new version, v1.1. As indicated in the announcement published on 31 March the update follows feedback received by market participants after the publication of the first version of the XML schema (v.1.0) and an assessment of a technical committee.
