On 14 June 2023, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) published its data strategy for 2023-2028.
The ESMA data strategy sets forth how ESMA intends to scale up its data capabilities to ensure the successful delivery of projects and tasks within the proposed timeline and to achieve its strategic objective.
Over the next five years, ESMA intends to:
- Enhance its role as a data hub, focusing on improved data, information accessibility, interoperability and usability, along with data harmonisation and standardisation.
- Contribute to providing easily accessible and usable information to market participants, including to retail investors, in machine readable formats and via use-friendly search an analytical interfaces.
- Enable cutting-edge, smart and effective data-driven supervision by joint developments and use of novel technologies.
- Pursue thought leadership and collaboration on data standards, technologies and reporting innovations.
- Achieve better data standardisation, quality and reusability and promote the adoption of innovative technologies.
- Reduce the compliance burden for reporting entities by reducing duplicative and inconsistent requirements, optimising reporting flows, effective and efficient data sharing, and emerging technologies.
- Establish processes, methodologies and tools enabling systemic use of data for evidence-based policy development, supervision and risk and assessment.
