The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has issued Q&As in order to promote the sound, effective and consistent application of EU rules on anti-money laundering and terrorist financing to investment-based crowdfunding platforms.

The Q&As are aimed at member state competent authorities to support them in ensuring that their supervisory approach is effective, taking into account the characteristics of and risks associated with different aspects of investment-based crowdfunding. However, market participants should also find them helpful by providing clarity on the issues involved.

ESMA does not expect to produce any further Q&As on this topic, but it will consider, as appropriate, whether any aspects of the Q&A should be revised in the light of new legislation or significant developments in the investment-based crowdfunding market.
