The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) has published a report setting out good practices for websites that provide comparisons for insurance products. The main aim of the report is to promote transparency, simplicity and fairness for internet users who use online comparison websites when searching for insurance products. The good practices outlined in the report, which mainly relate to commercial comparison websites, therefore cover the following areas:

  • information about the website;
  • main features and different business models of comparison websites;
  • market coverage;
  • dealing with potential conflicts of interest;
  • criteria used to decide the ranking;
  • presentation of information; and
  • frequency of updating the information.
