The Council of the EU has published a summary record of the meeting of the European Parliament’s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee (ECON) held on 9 January 2014. At that meeting, ECON considered the progress of certain legislative proposals including the:
- Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive. ECON has agreed to vote for the compromise agreement reached with the Council in December 2013. This vote will take place in plenary session in February 2014;
- Directive recasting the Deposit Guarantee Schemes. ECON has agreed to vote for the compromise agreement reached with the Council in December 2013. This vote will take place in plenary session in April 2014;
- Directive on criminal sanctions for insider dealing and market manipulation. ECON has agreed to vote for the compromise agreement reached with the Council in December 2013. This vote will take place in plenary session in February 2014; and
- Regulation on improving securities settlement and central securities depositaries. Following the agreement in principle reached on the CSD Regulation in trialogue in December 2013, technical work will now proceed on preparing a full text for agreement on which ECON would be re-consulted in the normal way.
ECON also intends to ask for a one-month extension of the scrutiny period of the delegated Regulation supplementing the Capital Requirements Regulation on the calculation of credit risk adjustments, adopted by the Commission on 20 December 2013.
