The European Central Bank (ECB) has published its annual report for 2015.
The report provides an overview of the ECB’s activities in 2015 and the Eurosystem (that is, the central banking system of the eurozone, comprising the ECB and the national central banks of the eurozone).
The report covers activities relating to:
- the ECB’s macro-prudential function and its micro-prudential activities;
- the ECB’s roles concerning payment and settlement services, in particular the TARGET2 system, TARGET2-Securities and the oversight of payment systems and market infrastructures, including managing the risks associated with central counterparties; and
- legal developments relating to the single supervisory mechanism.
The ECB has also published the introductory remarks made by Vitor Constancio, ECB Vice President, who reiterates the ECB’s support for the EU Capital Markets Union and considers the need to complete EU Banking Union with the European deposit insurance scheme. He also outlines the ECB’s contribution to regulatory initiatives at international level.
