The European Banking Authority (EBA) has launched a public consultation on its interim report on the implementation and design of the minimum requirement for own funds and eligible liabilities (MREL). The interim report has been drafted in accordance with Articles 45(19) and (20) of the Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive, which mandates the EBA to deliver a report on the implementation of MREL to the European Commission by 31 October 2016. The report will assist the Commission in its work on a legislative proposal on the harmonised application of MREL as well as a legislative proposal to review MREL and implement the total loss absorbing capacity standard in the EU. The deadline for comments on the report is 30 August 2016.
