The Competition Commission has published an annotated issues statement as part of its market investigation into the supply of payday lending in the UK. The statement provides an update on the progress of the market investigation and the work that the Competition Commission is still undertaking.

The annotated issues statement refers to:

• various working papers prepared, or being prepared, by the Competition Commission, as well as the research that it has commissioned thus far;
• key features relevant to understanding the payday lending sector and competition, in the context of the Competition Commission’s investigation;
• the impediments to customers shopping around and switching; and
• the issues around market power, entry and expansion.

Comments on the annotated issues statement are invited by up until February 2014.
