Michel Barnier, European Commissioner for Internal Markets and Services, has welcomed the political agreement that has been reached between negotiators for the European Parliament and the Council of the EU on the draft Directive on deposit guarantee schemes. The agreement was reached on 17 December 2013.

Mr Barnier states that he looks forward to the Parliament and the Council confirming the political agreement in the coming weeks.
