On 24 January 2024, the European Commission (Commission) published its report to the European Parliament and the Council on the macroprudential review for credit institutions, the systemic risks relating to Non-Bank Financial Intermediaries (NBFIs) and their interconnectedness with credit institutions, under Article 513 of the Capital Requirements Regulation (CRR).

The report is required by Article 513 of the CRR and reviews the EU macroprudential framework set out in the CRR and the Capital Requirements Directive IV (CRD IV). The review was originally due by June 2022 but was postponed in order to better assess the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic (and the post-pandemic) macroeconomic conditions, the growth of NBFI and the US banking turmoil last year. The report draws on numerous studies by EU and international bodies as well as a public consultation conducted by the Commission. Bilateral discussions between the Commission services and stakeholders have also been held.
