On 22 December 2014, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) published a notice of intention to conduct a quantitative sample survey of personal current account (PCA) customers as part of its retail banking market investigation. The CMA has now published a further notice on the technical details of the methodology it proposes to use for its survey.

With regards to the methodology, the notice concerns:

  • survey parameters. The target population for the CMA survey will be all adults who have a PCA within the UK;
  • sample design. The survey will comprise approximately 5,000 telephone interviews; and
  • fieldwork. Telephone interviews will take approximately 20 minutes on average.

The deadline for responses to the notice is 20 January 2015.

Separately, the CMA has also published a document setting out the draft survey questionnaire. The deadline for comments to the draft questionnaire is 21 January 2015.
