The House of Commons library has published a briefing paper on Brexit and financial services. The briefing paper brings together some of the immediate responses to the UK referendum result from various organisations. However, the briefing paper does not analyse the comments, rather presenting what was available. A fuller analysis of issues in a wide range of areas can be found in a previous House of Commons library note, EU referendum: impact of an EU exit in key UK policy areas. The briefing paper also mentions the report that the Bank of England (BoE) published last October, EU membership and the Bank of England. In this report the BoE analysed how membership of the European Union affects its ability to fulfil its mission to promote the good of the people of the United Kingdom by achieving its statutory objectives. In particular, chapter 4 of the report discusses how the BoE’s policy framework is affected by EU rules.
