On 9 November 2016, we blogged that the Bank of England (BoE) published a statement of policy and a response to its earlier consultation on the central bank’s approach to setting a minimum requirement for own funds and eligible liabilities (MREL).

The BoE has now published on its website indicative MREL data covering:

  • estimates of the interim and final consolidated MREL requirements that it has sent to each of the UK’s global and domestic systemically important banks; and
  • the average of the indicative 2020 and 2022 MRELs and total requirements for eight other UK banks and building societies that currently have a resolution plan that involves the use of resolution tools by the BoE.
