On 22 February 2017, the government published a draft of the German Act on the Adoption of the Fourth European Money Laundering Directive. The German version of the draft Act can be found here. The Act will amend the German Money Laundering Act (GeldwäschegesetzGwG) and will come into force on 26 June 2017 together with the European Funds Transfers Regulation (Geldtransfer-Verordnung). Inter alia, an intensified risk-based approach, new exemptions for e-money products, a register for beneficial owners and tougher sanctions will be implemented into German law.
