The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has published a speech given by Steven Maijoor, ESMA Chair, on why safeguarding investors is key to ensuring the success of the Capital Markets Union (CMU).
Among other things, Mr Maijoor notes that the Joint Committee of the European Supervisory Authorities is about to finalise a report on automation in financial advice. The report will draw conclusions on potential benefits and risks of robot advice, taking account of the existing EU regulatory framework that is technology neutral.
Mr Maijoor also mentions that ESMA is leading the work of the Joint Committee on opportunities and challenges related to the use of Big Data by financial institutions. A discussion paper should be published by the end of the year.
