On 14 September 2017, the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) and the Securities Commission Malaysia (SCM) signed a co-operation agreement to collaborate on the promotion of financial innovation in Hong Kong and Malaysia

The co-operation agreement sets out a framework for collaboration between the SFC and the SCM and covers matters such as referrals, information sharing and joint innovation projects.

The co-operation undertaking between the SFC and the SCM is a further step by Hong Kong regulators in their commitment to developing fintech in Hong Kong. The arrangement follows and supplements the fintech co-operation agreement the SFC entered into with the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) last month and the fintech co-operation agreement the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) entered into with the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) last year.
